Abstract

Abstract. Introduction. The Scientific Society of Agrarian Historians is a public association of historians of the peasantry and agriculture of Cherkasy oblast in Ukraine. In 2020 there will be the twentieth anniversary of this organization, and such a mark naturally requires an analysis of its work.

Purpose is to analyze the activity of the public organization of peasant historians of the Scientific Society of Agrarian Historians.

Results. The foundation of the Scientific Society of Agrarian Historians is associated with the process of forming a scientific school of agricultural history in higher education institutions in Cherkasy and Uman. As a result, in 2000, researchers of the history of peasantry formed their own public association. By 2020, the organization employs seventy researchers and agricultural practitioners from Cherkasy and Uman, as well as Kyiv, Kharkiv, Ternopil and other cities of Ukraine.

The creation and activity of the Scientific Society of Agrarian Historians has significantly affected the institutionalization of research in the field of agrarian history in Ukraine, deservingly recognized as one of the centers of scientific study of agricultural problems. The society was an active initiator of holding all-Ukrainian symposia on agricultural history and other scientific forums. With the participation of the organization in Cherkasy, a specialized periodical on the history of the peasantry “Ukrainian Peasant” is published. The society also publishes the newspaper “Historical and Agrarian Horizons”. The pages of these publications publish the results of research by members of the Agrarian Historians Society, which reflect the history of the peasantry from the Middle Ages to the present, reveal the problems of methodology, sources of knowledge and historiography of agrarian history, as well as important events of historians. Instead of articles in periodicals, during the existence of the organization its members have prepared and published more than 40 works, which were published in separate books.

The work of the Society of Agrarian Historians promotes the implementation of joint projects, as well as individual research interests. To take into account the interests of members of the organization in its structure there are sections that bring together researchers on research topics.

Originality. The raised topic summarizes the activities of the public association of agricultural historians of the Scientific Society of Agrarian Historians for the whole period of its existence.

Conclusion. Twenty years of the Scientific Society of Agrarian Historians activity testifies that in modern conditions public organizations can be marked by constancy in work. The reason for the effectiveness of the Society of Agrarian Historians is the presence of real professional relations in the relations between the members of the organization, devotion to their socio-professional purpose and carrying out appropriate activities that meet the capabilities of members of the public association. Preservation and support of this trend is the basis of further positive history of the Scientific Society of Agrarian Historians.
