Abstract
Abstract. The purpose of the study The study has elaborated and published the materials of Myron Korduba’s personal file (1876–1947) which was deposited in the archives of the University of Vienna. The materials present the process of obtaining the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
The methodological basis of the work is an interdisciplinary approach. Methods of structural and functional system analysis of historiographical facts and the method of critical analysis of documentary material have been particularly important in research implementation.
Scientific novelty: for the first time the most important materials of M. Korduba’s personal file from the archives of the University of Vienna have been published. Published documents reflect the process of obtaining the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
Result. Thus, the first document is a detailed report by M. Korduba on the courses taught at Lviv University and the scientific seminars held during the four semesters of the 1893-1895 academic years. This is an extremely important and interesting document that allows us to fully recreate the educational trajectory of a novice historian and understand his scientific interests at the dawn of his professional career, because at that time students had the opportunity to choose subjects according to their preferences. The second document is the most valuable in the whole file. This is a review of M. Korduba’s dissertation by K. Irechko that was unknown to Ukrainian researchers. The reviewer highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of Korduba’s work and concluded about its readiness for the defense. The third document is of great value as well. This is the first known autobiography of M. Korduba. Despite its conciseness, it allows us to recreate the young scientist’s reflection on the main milestones of his life, as well as to understand whose professional influences he considered to be the most significant. The document mentions only the names of three professors from Lviv University and two from Vienna.
The study has concluded about the informativeness of M. Korduba’s personal file for studying the Vienna period of his biography.
