Theoretical and methodological concept of Mykhailo Hrushevsky in the optics of contemporary historiography
Main Article Content
Abstract
Abstract. The purpose of the article is to analyze the latest reflection of Ukrainian historiography in regarding to the theoretical and methodological concept of M. Hrushevsky. The scientific novelty. The problem of the theoretical-methodological concept of M. Hrushevsky is one of the most debatable segments of “Hrushevskiana”, and therefore requires further analytical research. The phenomenon of his theoretical and methodological approaches consists in the attempt to combine the heuristic possibilities of various socio-humanitarian disciplines, besides history, in particular, ethnology, anthropology and sociology. However, the theoretical concepts and methodological foundations of the historian are still poorly understood. The most constructive is L. Zashkilnyak’s proposal to interpret M. Hrushevsky’s methodological model as “ethno-social”. Although modern researchers, who analyze the theoretical and methodological views of M. Hrushevsky, demonstrate not quite adequate competence and awareness in this area.
Conclusions. The methodology of M. Hrushevsky is a rather complex historiographical fact that is constantly being investigated by Ukrainian scientists. At the same time, each epoch finds within its boundaries new and new nuances that force us to rethink the scientific heritage of the outstanding historian. Modern historians certify a multidisciplinary nature of his scientific heritage in the reconstruction of the past. Although today the ethnological and sociological aspects of the scientist’s methodology are still being analyzed cursorily and superficially. Therefore, the ethnological aspect of his scientific work is just beginning to be developed in historical science, and in studies devoted to the scientist, this problem is either not raised at all, or is mentioned fragmentarily. Unfortunately, not all modern researchers who seek to explore the methodological foundations of the concept of M. Hrushevsky, can boast of their own high methodological culture.
