Abstract
Abstracts. The purpose. The article reveals the history and features of the creation of the unique stained-glass windows of Notre Dame Cathedral, describes their significance in the formation of European culture, and carries out a semantic analysis of the medieval rose windows of Notre Dame. The scientific novelty. The topic has become relevant due to the threat of losing these priceless monuments of history, culture, and art as a result of the fire that occurred in the Cathedral in April 2019. For Ukraine, which is fighting Russian aggression, the problem of protecting, restoring, and restoring iconic symbols of national identity and cultural heritage is extremely acute. An example of the strategy of saving from the ashes, demonstrated in Notre Dame, shows that one of the most important elements that guaranteed the success of the campaign was a thorough study and description of the monument. Conclusions. Gothic cathedrals are considered to be among the most impressive in the world. One of the symbols of European civilization, the unsurpassed skill of ancient craftsmen and the achievements of the human mind is Notre Dame de Paris, whose construction began in the ХІІ century. For eight and a half centuries, the Cathedral has witnessed and participated in many significant events in France and Europe. Its stained-glass windows still amaze visitors and researchers alike, as they are not only works of art but also important historical and cultural monuments.
