Abstract

Abstract. The purpose of the study is to reproduce the reception of M. Hrushevsky's cooperation with the National Democratic Party in modern Ukrainian historiography. The research methodology is based on the complex use of the principles of historicism, objectivity and systematicity, as well as general scientific (generalization, comparison, analysis and synthesis) and special-historical (historical-comparative, historical-genetic, historical-psychological and historical-typological) methods of historiographical research. The scientific novelty of the article consists in the study of the little-known problem of the reception of M. Hrushevsky's activities as a member of the National Democratic Party in the historiography of the late 20th – early 21st centuries. Conclusion. The article has noted that the comprehensive reconstruction of the “Hrushevsky and the National Democratic Party” problem is a significant achievement of Ukrainian historiography of the era of independence. Due to the inaccessibility of archival collections, diaspora Ukrainian scholars investigated the problem in the vein of the memoir and journalistic tradition of the interwar period. The study of the Lviv and Kyiv archives during the end of the 20th and the first decades of the 21st century and the related actualization of significant arrays of epistolary, memoir, and clerical documents made it possible to study in detail many of the subjects of this page of the political biography of the scientist. Therefore, today we are well informed about the socio-political context of the emergence of the National Democratic Party (V. Rasevich), the process of M. Hrushevsky's involvement in the formation of a new political force and the development of its ideological foundations (V. Kuhar, R. Pyrig, V. Telvak), the course of the conflict between former political partners (Y. Hrytsak, E. Pshenichnyi, V. Horyn, S. Pankova), the reception of the scientist's party activities (V. Telvak), etc. At the same time, the mentioned considerable achievements actualize more special research tasks. Among these, we emphasize the primary need to find out the duration of the formal stay of the historian in the National People's Party and the extent of his influence on the ideological evolution of this political force. This will contribute to the creation of a panoramic monographic study about the National Democratic Party, in which the social and political activities of M. Hrushevsky should be investigated more thoroughly.
