The Problems of the Origin and Development of the Ukrainian Cossack State on the Pages of «The Ukrainian Peasant»

Abstract
Abstract. The problems of the birth and development of Ukrainian Cossack state of Bohdan Khmelnytsky on pages of scientific papers «The Ukrainian peasant» is being analysed. The author is disclosing the factors of importance and urgency of deep analysis in Cossack’s learning subject by history and humanities specialists in modern Ukrainian historiography. This is due to several factors, primarily the thing – Ukrainian Cossacks is unique phenomenon in world history; secondly, Cossacks influenced on the formation of national consciousness of Ukrainian people and bore esteem potential for the development of society.
The roundtable talk under the title «Ukrainian Cossacks: problems and prospects of investigation» took place in December, 1990. It became a powerful impetus for diverse research groups to explore Cossacks phenomenon. It also showed the inexhaustible possibilities for Cossacks learning research directions for the coming years.
Since 2000, the issue of Bohdan Khmelnytsky Cherkasy State University «The Ukrainian peasant» has launched active discussion on diverse Cossacks learning topics. As the publication of History Academy, the Peasantry Research Institute and the Agrarian- chronographers Scientific Society the journal have consolidated the brightest representatives of Ukrainian scientific intellectuals, who productively, constructively and purposefully are trying to cover diverse aspects of the historical development of our country.
Retrospective analysis of 15 issues of professional edition depicts diversified genre palette on posed subject: the state-nature of the Cossacks; Cossacks influence on the formation of national consciousness in Ukrainian society; peasant as a factor for participation and interaction in the formation of the new socio-political forces – Cossacks phenomenon; Cossacks in the system of social and economic relations of contemporary society; regional studies of various aspects of the origin and development of Ukrainian Cossacks; the formation of Cossack farm types in Left Bank of Ukraine; representation of Ukrainian Cossacks as military influential troops in medieval Europe; highlighting of Cossack heroism in the oral folklore and songs.
New quality of Cossack learning publications accumulated by Ukrainian historians was reflected as in quantitative so in qualitative terms. The common features of publications are: the expansion of thematic fields; strengthening the theoretical basis of documentary and theoretical authors’ statements; display of positive and negative assessments; illustration of approaches which belong to Ukrainian, foreign and Soviet times scientists who reviewed issues related to the Cossacks phenomenon.
